Fonts for review

Review, accept, or deny font(s) queued for production usage.

Overview

When Monotype Connect+ users sync, download, or use fonts in their projects, or share intent to use a font, those fonts appear on the Fonts for review page. Admin or Limited admin users can accept these fonts to confirm them as production fonts, or deny them to remove them from review for the current quarter.

Reviewing fonts regularly helps maintain font governance, improve visibility into font usage, and support licensing compliance efforts.

How can I access the Fonts for review page

  1. In the left navigation pane, select Font licensing.

  2. Select Fonts for review.

The page displays fonts detected from various sources that are awaiting review.


Understanding the Fonts for review page

It is the main page that you can use to review fonts detected across the organization before they are added to the production font inventory.

It also shows the status of the detected fonts like missing fonts, fonts leaving the platform, or conflicting fonts and provide possible action to resolve the font issue.

Refer to the table below to understand the options available on the Fonts for review page.

Displays the fonts recommended by Monotype. You can evaluate these fonts and add them to your production font library.

Displays all the Monotype fonts available to your company.

Non-MT fonts tab

Displays third-party fonts (not from Monotype) detected in the company's environment.

Review non-Monotype font usage and determine whether fonts should be approved or investigated further based on the status of the font (like Missing, Active, Needs review, missing license, etc.)

Note: There is a Status column visible only for this tab showing the status of Non-Monotype fonts and possible resolutions in the Action column.

Production font badge

Displays the current production font usage against the licensed entitlement (for example, 1249 of 100 used).

Hover to view a tooltip with additional production font usage details.

License usage tooltip

Displays additional information about how the production font count is calculated. Example: 1229 fonts contribute to a total font count of 1249.

Provides visibility into the fonts contributing to the reported count.

New production font

Use this option to manually add a production font.

Opens the workflow for creating a new production font entry.

Search

Search icon located in the upper-right corner of the page.

Search for specific fonts within the current view.

Accept fonts

Bulk action available when one or more fonts are selected.

Adds selected fonts to the production font inventory.

Deny fonts

Bulk action available when one or more fonts are selected.

Removes selected fonts from the review workflow.

View selected items

Displays details for selected fonts. Available after selecting one or more rows.

Opens a view showing only the selected fonts.

Detects fonts used in documents.

Upload or scan documents to identify fonts used within files.

Export data

Exports font review information.

Downloads the current review data for reporting or analysis.

Filters

Opens filtering options.

Filter results by team, source, tier, and last activity date.

  1. Team: Filters the results based on the team name.

  2. Source: Filters the fonts having the selected source name.

  3. Tier: Filters the results based on the font tier.

  4. Last activity date: Displays the fonts whose last activity date is within the selected range.

Select checkbox

Checkbox located in the table header.

Selects all fonts displayed on the page.

Row selection checkbox

Checkbox displayed for each font entry.

Selects an individual font for bulk actions.

Font style

Displays the font family and style name.

Select the font name to view additional information.

Team

Shows the team associated with the font, if applicable.

Helps identify font ownership and usage.

Source

Displays where the font was detected. Examples include Document scan, Project, or Activation.

Select + n more to view additional detection sources.

Last detected

Shows the most recent date the font was identified.

Used to determine recent font activity.

Approve

Displays in the Actions column.

Approves the font and adds it to production fonts.

Reject

Displays in the Actions column.

Rejects the font and removes it from the review queue.

+ n more link

Appears in the Source column when a font has multiple detection sources and n is the number of additional sources.

Opens a list of all associated sources.

Note: Displays +n for more than one sources. Where, n is the number of sources in addition to the displayed source.


FAQs

What is the Fonts for review page?

The Fonts for review page displays fonts that have been detected in your organization's environment and are awaiting review. Administrators can approve fonts for production use or reject fonts that should not be added to the production font inventory.


Why am I seeing fonts on the Fonts for review page?

Fonts appear on this page when they are detected through sources such as document scans, projects, font activations, or other monitored activities but not marked for production.


What is the difference between Recommended MT fonts, All MT fonts, and Non-MT fonts?

  • Recommended MT fonts: Displays Monotype-recommended fonts that may be suitable for your company.

  • All MT fonts: Displays all Monotype fonts available to your company.

  • Non-MT fonts: Displays non-Monotype fonts detected across your environment.


Who can review and approve fonts?

Users with the appropriate administrative permissions can review, approve, and reject fonts.


What does the production font usage (like 1249 of 100 used) mean?

This usage indicator shows the current production font count compared to the licensed entitlement based on your contract. In this example, your company is using a total production font count of 1249 against an entitlement limit of 100.


Why is the production font count displayed in red?

The count is shown in red when production font usage exceeds the licensed entitlement limit.


What happens when I hover over the production font usage indicator?

A tooltip displays additional information about the production font calculation, including how many fonts contribute to the total font count.


How is the production font count calculated?

The production font count is based on the fonts that have been approved as production fonts and their associated font count calculations.


How do I approve a font?

Locate the font and select the Approve icon from the Actions column.


How do I approve multiple fonts at once?

  1. Select the checkboxes next to the fonts.

  2. Click Accept fonts.


What happens when I approve a font?

The font is added to the company's production font inventory and contributes to the production font usage calculations.


How do I reject a font?

Select the Deny icon from the Actions column.


How do I reject multiple fonts?

  1. Select one or more fonts.

  2. Select Deny fonts.


Can I reverse a rejected font?

If a font was rejected accidentally, search and locate the font and add it manually as a production font, depending on your compan's workflow.


What does the Source column show?

The Source column identifies where the font was detected, such as:

  • Document scan

  • Project

  • Activation

  • Other monitored sources


What does "+1 more" or "+2 more" mean?

It means that the font was detected from multiple sources. Select the link to view additional detection sources.


What does the Last activity date mean?

The Last activity date shows the most recent date on which the font was identified in your environment.


Why does a font show no associated team?

The detected font has not yet been mapped to a specific team within the company.


What does Scan documents do?

Scan documents analyzes uploaded files and identifies fonts used within those documents.


Will scanned fonts automatically become production fonts?

No. Detected fonts are added to the review workflow and must be reviewed before being approved for production use.


Does adding a production font affect my usage count?

Yes. Production fonts contributes to the company's production font count and licensing usage calculations.


How do I find a specific font?

Use the search option to find fonts by name.


Why don't I see the font I'm looking for?

The font may:

  • Not have been detected yet.

  • Be filtered out.

  • Have already been approved, rejected, or moved to another workflow.


What information is included in Export data?

The export contains the font records currently available in the list, including details such as font name, source, team association, and detection information.


Can I export only filtered results?

Yes. Any applied filters are reflected in the exported data.


Why should I review Non-MT fonts?

Non-Monotype fonts may require additional licensing validation before they are approved for production use.


Does approving a font confirm that it is properly licensed?

No. Approving a font adds it to the production inventory. You should verify licensing rights separately as part of your font governance process.

Monotype Connect+ shows the Need review status for the fonts that need license verification.


How often should I review the Fonts for review page?

Organizations should review the page regularly to ensure that newly detected fonts are evaluated promptly and that production font inventories remain accurate.


Troubleshooting

Why is a font appearing multiple times?

A font may be detected from multiple sources or in multiple contexts within the company.

Why can't I approve or reject a font?

You may not have the required permissions, or the font may already have been marked for production by another administrator.

Why is the production font count higher than the number of fonts displayed?

Production font usage is based on production font calculations and font count values, which may not directly correspond to the number of visible fonts in the review list.

For example, some types of fonts like variable and CCJK fonts, are counted as five production font count.

Why don't I see a font after scanning a document?

The scan may still be processing, or the font may not have been successfully detected in the submitted document.
